Pitching and Getting Started

Positive feedback from the pitch:

- The ideas work well and we can go ahead with them
- The instagrammable format of the videos is good

Negative feedback from the pitch:

- In appealing to 18-24 year olds world-over, we need to have characters who aren't just white men. It's offputting.

I made a gantt chart to keep the team on top of things. There are only 3 weeks or so to make this project from scratch.

I've made rough animation of the fire and am pleased with it.

Plenty of trial and error has been involved, but I'm pleased with how my effects animation is progressing. I've turned to YouTube tutorials to figure it out.

Storyboarding

Our group now has all three idents storyboarded.

I've completed the storyboard for the stunt biker and the cavemen. I tested a lot of premises for how fire could be used to cook a burger, including cooking using a fire breathing dinosaur:

And a fiery meteor that comes and cooks the burger

I initially drew the storyboards from a low angle looking at the microwave, to put the burger in the centre of the shot. However, it obscured the action and my team wasn't especially keen on it.

I'm very pleased with the final storyboard. It's concise and I'm pleased with the art. I like to think I'm improving at pre-production and I'm glad that trail and error was involved here, so I could experiment.

New Burgery Brief

My group chose to address the BURGER KING brief for D&AD. The brief implied that we could be tongue in cheek and not too "vanilla". This allows for plenty of madcap animated fun in our advert.

In looking to cater to 18-24 year olds we will format the videos to be shown on Instagram (they'll be square). We considered these factors.

 At first I struggled to get in the mindset of making a video for Instagram, but I've decided it'll be fun to make an animated solution in a format I'm not accustomed to.

We'll make a series of short zany scenarios in which someone is cooking a burger and "FIRE IS BETTER".

I'm currently storyboarding, making efforts to add more depth and detail than in my previous storyboards. I'm enjoying considering cinematography and timing and look forward to producing some nice animatics.
